It’s a “Winter Wonderland” in Lambeau as the Packers host Washington
The Packers open Week 2 with a Thursday night matchup with the Washington Commanders at Lambeau Field.
Both teams are 1-0 after home wins vs divisional opponents. The Packers defeated the Lions 27-13 while the Commanders won 21-6 vs the New York Giants.
QB Jayden Daniels certainly made a name for himself last season as a rookie. With receivers such as Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel, they are capable of scoring a lot of points. It will be necessary to keep the pressure on the quarterback. Keep them out of the endzone as much as possible and let’s get some turnovers as well.
Jordan Love made some very nice throws in the 1st half vs Detroit, and RB Josh Jacobs got going in the 2nd half, making some very nice runs to help control the clock and the game. A balanced attack will help greatly, especially playing against a team that is capable of scoring every time they touch the ball. The Packers showed they can score some points themselves. They need to take advantage of their scoring opportunities and not play from behind.
This is a Washington team that has gone through a long stretch of mediocre or bad football. The franchise was a mess and fans stayed away in droves. Jayden Daniels as a rookie turned the franchise around almost instantly, playing like a seasoned veteran at times and leading them into the NFC Championship Game, somewhere they haven’t been since the 1991-92 season, when they won it all. They were the ones who defeated the Lions in the playoffs last season. The Packers will have their hands full in this game.
The Packers have Micah Parsons though and his presence was felt, even when he wasn’t filling up the box score directly. The Commanders know about his impact, having played the Cowboys twice a year, so they know what he is capable of doing on the field. The Packers’ defensive line overwhelmed the Lions’ offensive line. The Giants sacked Daniels 3 times on Sunday. The Commanders had 220 rushing yards though, so it will be up to the Packers to contain their running game.
The victory over the Lions was sweet, but it’s a short week and it’s now time to focus on Washington. The Packers will also be wearing their “Winter Warning” jerseys for the game. Let’s dominate and enjoy another victory this week. Whether you are at the game or not, let’s make our voices heard!
