Packers at Cowboys on Sunday night, enough said
The Packers will look to get back into the win column as they play on Sunday night on the road vs the Dallas Cowboys.
Both teams are coming off losses in Week 3. The Packers fell 13-10 at Cleveland while the Cowboys lost 31-14 at Soldier Field. The Packers are 2-1 and the Cowboys are 1-2.
If given time and space Dak Prescott can hurt you with his arms and legs. He will not have the services of CeeDee Lamb, but George Pickens, if he has his head in the game, could be a big threat. TE Jake Ferguson, a Wisconsin Badger, is capable of making big catches too. The Packers can’t fall asleep just because Lamb isn’t in the lineup. They have to force Prescott to make mistakes, something they had a lot of success doing in previous matchups. Let’s get some big sacks and force turnovers. We haven’t had much of the latter this year. We need to change that.
Jordan Love would like to redeem himself after his ill-timed interception at Cleveland. He will be dealing with a patchwork offensive line. Either way, they need to show they can run the ball, and in doing that, it will set up the pass and hopefully, the deep ball. Love will need to make quick and smart decisions, and let’s avoid these penalties. We had too many in the game at Cleveland. Let’s also avoid turnovers.
Special teams can never be forgotten. The Packers had a field goal blocked in the final minute. The Cowboys have a kicker who can nail it from a very long distance. Field position will be key. The Cowboys are never out of a game when he can potentially nail it from 70 or so yards or closer.
The obvious story is Micah Parsons making his return to the place he called home for the first 4 years of his career before the shocking trade with Green Bay. Parsons has made quite an impact, and Rashan Gary might be the biggest beneficiary of it with 4.5 sacks on the season already. The defense will need to come up huge and make some big plays on Sunday night.
Jerry Jones has had to make some big decisions with contracts these last few years. He gave Prescott and Lamb huge paydays and neglected to lock up Micah Parsons a few years ago. This past season made the price tag too much for Jerry Jones to want to cover. After a standoff, he finally gave in and traded Parsons for Kenny Clark and a few draft picks. The Cowboys weren’t going anywhere, with or without Parsons, but the Packers really capitalized on the trade and are now in the mix for the best in the NFC and maybe the NFL.
Despite many of the talking heads predicting a Packer victory, I am cautious. It is an emotional moment dealing Parsons to a historical rival. Also, remember that the Cowboys had quite a season in 2023, going perfect at home in the regular season and scoring points in bunches. They also had a very emotional win over the Detroit Lions late in the season. They were the #2 seed and were looking forward to wins over the Packers and Lions and a huge matchup with the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. A funny thing happened though. Jordan Love and the Packers took it to the Cowboys and sent them to their first home loss of the season. Jerry Jones considered it one of the toughest defeats of his tenure as the Cowboys’ owner. Not only is it the return of Micah Parsons to “Big D”, but the Cowboys will be looking for a bit of payback. The Packers need to be ready.
The Packers and Cowboys have had quite a history. I’m sure most of you know about them meeting in the NFL Championship Game before Super Bowl I and II. They would meet in the playoffs the next 4 times at Texas Stadium, all Packer losses, including 3 years in a row in the 1990s. The Packers would finally get on the winning side once again in the game known as the Dez Bryant non-catch. A few years later, they would meet in AT&T Stadium, and the catch by Jared Cook would set them up for the winning field goal. A few seasons ago, Jordan Love almost had a perfect passer rating as the Packers demolished the Cowboys in “Big D” and sent them home to a bitter defeat, which is what Jerry Jones described as one of his worst losses in his tenure as the Cowboys’ owner. The Packers still have not lost in that stadium, and that includes Super Bowl XLV.
There will obviously be a lot of Packer fans attending this game. We would like to forget the game in Cleveland, especially the final 3 minutes or so. We need to do better at the end of games and we need to remember that games are 60 minutes. Let’s be at our best from the opening kickoff to the final snap of the game. Let’s dominate! The Packers have never walked out of AT&T Stadium with a loss. I would like to keep it that way. Let’s live up to the hype and destroy the Cowboys on Sunday!
Go Pack Go!
