It’s a “White-out” as the Packers defeat Washington to improve to 2-0
The Packers started out 2-0 after their 27-18 victory over the Commanders at Lambeau Field on Thursday night, the 2nd straight game they scored 27 points and the 2nd straight game they allowed 0 touchdowns until the final quarter.
After an exchange of punts, the Packers marched down the field and scored on a 5-yard TD throw from Jordan Love to Romeo Doubs. After 3 more combined punts, the Packers found the endzone again, Josh Jacobs again. He has a habit of scoring TDs lately. Both teams traded missed field goals to end the half. After Washington missed a FG to start the 2nd half, the Packers got a FG of their own. The Commanders scored a TD to pull within 17-10 in the 4th quarter, but the Packers drove down the field and found Tucker Kraft, who has had quite a day already, for a TD. After the Commanders failed to move the ball, Brandon McManus gave the Packers some valuable breathing room with a 56-yard FG. The Commanders got a TD and a 2-point conversion, but they turned it over on downs on their next possession and the Packers ran out the clock.
Thoughts about this win:
Jordan Love made some very nice throws once again. That sideline pass to Malik Heath was a thing of beauty. It was so awesome that they needed a replay to overturn the call.
Tucker Kraft had himself a game, finishing with 6 catches for 124 yards. He got rewarded for his efforts with a TD reception in the 4th quarter. I love when the Packers have great tight ends. Luke Musgrave is no slouch either. He had 2 for 32 yards.
Josh Jacobs didn’t have dominant numbers by any means, but he knows how to find the endzone. It’s 10 straight games where he scored a TD in the regular season. Sometimes scores are all that matters, although he can do a whole lot more.
The defense didn’t get any turnovers, but they made the night rough for Jayden Daniels. The Commanders had 51 yards rushing and all 3 players who had a run in the game finished with 17 total yards. The Packers outgained them 135-51 on the ground and 404-230 overall.
An area where the Packers would like to clean up is the penalties. They had 10 for 77 yards. Let’s try to cut that in half next time.
Brandon McManus had a 48-yard FG bounce off the uprights. He had a 22-yard FG which was good but looked shaky. Matt LaFleur sent him out for a 56-yard attempt in the 4th quarter and he nailed it. That shows they still have confidence in him. He just needed to straighten out those attempts a bit more.
When the schedule came out, this looked like a rough way to start the season. They had the #1 seed from a year ago, the Lions, then the team who defeated the Lions in the playoffs, but the Packers passed both tests and are 2-0. That is a nice start to the season, but that’s all it is, a good start. There is a long way to go.
It is encouraging for the Packers to start out 2-0 and never trail in either of their 2 games and playing 2 great teams, at least we think they are. After their time off, they have 2 road games starting with the Cleveland Browns. Enjoy the weekend Packer fans!
