Packers face Browns in their first road game of the season
The Packers hit the road for the first time this season as they face the Cleveland Browns in a Noon (Central Time) start on Sunday.
The Packers are 2-0 after their 27-18 victory over the Washington Commanders a week ago Thursday night. The Browns are 0-2 and lost 41-17 on the road to the Baltimore Ravens this past Sunday.
Joe Flacco has been around and won a Super Bowl with the Ravens. At age 40, he is still going, even with the younger quarterbacks on the team. They haven’t done much offensively but Flacco is a veteran, and if he has time to make decisions down the field, he can make you pay. Micah Parsons and the rest of the pass rushers need to throw off his timing and force him into making mistakes.
Jordan Love has had a decent start to the season. It’s a short sample size but these teams have the top 2 run defenses, with Cleveland at #1. The Packers will need to show that they can run the ball in order to open up their playbook. TE Tucker Kraft gave the team a scare in practice with a knee injury, but he says it’s fine. The team will be cautious, but I can see Kraft having some big plays in him on Sunday. The Browns have quite a pass rushing specialist of their own in Myles Garrett. He is an awesome talent but I will have to root against him on Sunday. The Packers have scored 27 points in each of their first 2 games. That might be enough to win on Sunday, but I wouldn’t mind an offensive explosion. They are very capable of doing it.
The Browns have had 10 head coaches from their first year in the NFL until they lost their team after the 1995 season. They have had 12 head coaches since they came back in 1999. That includes interim head coaches. Kevin Stefanski is their current head coach, and he may be hanging by a thread right now. They have put together some decent years, but they haven’t been able to build on any success they have had. They always managed to take a step (or several) back.
The Browns won the 1964 NFL Championship vs the Baltimore Colts, but that was the last year they would win a championship game. The next year, the Packers would defeat them and hold RB Jim Brown to only 50 yards rushing after he led the league in rushing yards. It would turn out to be his last game, and the Packers would go on to win 2 more NFL Championships and the first 2 Super Bowls.
The Packers are looking to go very far this year while the Browns are trying to do anything to turn their fortunes around. The Packers need to take this game seriously. Anything can happen once the game starts. If the Packers do what they need to do, they should win this game. Let’s get this victory and move on from there!
