Packers fail to cash in as they fall to the Raiders in Vegas
The Packers battled in a close game but ended up coming short, 17-13 to the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday Night Football.
The Packers scored first to take a 3-0 lead, but it wouldn’t last long. The Raiders led 10-3 at halftime. Rudy Ford intercepted a pass on the Raiders’ opening possession of the second half, and the Packers turned it into a touchdown and a tie game. The Packers led 13-10, but the Raiders drove down and scored a touchdown to go ahead. The Packers had a final drive to win the game, but Jordan Love threw his third interception and the Raiders were able to run out the clock.
Thoughts about this game:
Jordan Love made his first start on Monday night, but it’s a game he’d rather forget. He ended up with 3 interceptions, and even though one of those INTs was a tipped ball, it never should have been thrown. He just needs to study game film and get better.
A.J. Dillon made another start because Aaron Jones wasn’t ready to play. He had some nice runs and pushed the pile of tacklers with him on many of his runs. The Packers aren’t going to rush Jones back, but we need him if the Packers are going to make any kind of run this year.
Both those drives where they settled for field goals made a huge difference. They had a great opportunity to score touchdowns, but that’s often what happens when you break down in the red zone. That FG drive in the second half especially hurt. The Raiders saved a TD with a horse-collar tackle. Those 4 points the Packers didn’t get ended up being the final margin of the game.
There were too many dropped passes, especially on that final drive. They had LV reeling a bit on defense, but those drops took away their momentum. That doesn’t excuse Love, who shouldn’t have tried to force that pass to Christian Watson in the endzone.
So now the Raiders have their first victory over the Packers since 1987. Many of you haven’t even been born yet. The Raiders changed cities twice since that win.
The Packers now have another long time before they hit the field again. They have their bye next week and then they travel to Denver to play the Broncos. Here is hoping the Broncos keep reeling and the Packers figure something out during their time off.
A victory just wasn’t meant to be during this night in Vegas. Enjoy the bye week Packer fans! Then it’s off to Denver!
