Heartbreak in the Meadowlands as the Packers lose to the Giants
The Packers found themselves on the short end of a 24-22 loss to the Giants at the Meadowlands on Monday night.
The Packers did some good things in the first half and entered halftime with a 10-7 lead. The Giants quickly took the lead in the second half, but the Packers rallied to lead 22-21 late in the game. The Giants drove down the field and kicked the game-winning field goal to send the Packers to a deflating loss on Monday Night Football.
Thoughts about this game:
First, the good news: The Packers had some good drives with Jordan Love leading the way. Despite a shaky performance by Jordan Love compared to his previous 3 games, he drove the team down the field to take the lead with less than 2 minutes remaining in the game. It was set up by a fumble by Saquon Barkley, who fumbled the ball away when he could have helped to put the game away.
Now the bad news, which takes a lot more space: After convincing wins at Detroit and vs Kansas City, the offense took a step back. They had their moments, but they didn’t do enough. The defense took a major step back. Keisean Nixon had a bad game. He muffed a punt, and instead of falling on it, he tried to run with it and fumbled it away. In the Giants’ last possession, Nixon was caught flat-footed and gave up a critical catch that allowed the Giants to run the clock down and kick the winning field goal.
I really like Tucker Kraft. He needs to get the ball more for the Packers. A key play is when Jordan Love took a sack when he couldn’t afford it. Still, Anders Carlson missed a field goal that he should have made. I will give him a bit of slack since it is his first year, but you need to make these kicks. You have one job.
After a huge Thanksgiving Day win at Detroit and a huge Sunday night win at home vs Kansas City, the Packers suffered a letdown vs the Giants, a team that really struggled at times this year but have won the last two games coming into this matchup with the Packers. It just shows that you can’t take any opponent lightly in this league.
Amazingly, the Packers are still in the #7 spot in the NFC, which means that they would be a playoff team. If you ask me, they shouldn’t worry about the playoffs right now. They should just be worried about getting better and being the best team they can be every week from here on out. Their next game is at home vs Tampa Bay, a team they are fighting to hold off in their quest to make the playoffs.
Despite this loss, it still looks good for the Packers and their playoff hopes. Let’s have a great week of practice and get ready for the “Battle of the Bays” this next weekend. Have a great week Packer fans!
